MOJN has developed and standardized monitoring protocols to collect scientifically rigorous data on a prioritized set of vital signs that will aid parks in managing their natural resources. This position will assist MOJN data management staff in creating and maintaining the tools that we use to collect, manage, and visualize the data collected by our program. These data relate to the hydrology, vegetation, and bat populations of the Mojave Desert. Data collection would involve designing and entering data in data collection apps in ESRI Survey and Field Maps, and Microsoft Access. Data management tasks include writing scripts to look for data quality issues and automating tasks such as file renaming. Visualizing data includes creating graphs and other visualizations in ‘R’ and ESRI AGOL dashboards to support MOJN science communication efforts. The intern will also create original content for the MOJN social media sites. Finally, in order to understand the data life cycle from start to finish, this position offers the opportunity to participate in field work with any of our field crews.
